I LOVE THIS!

This book is super high quality, The cover is soft and adorable! I expected the book to be bigger, but was pleased when I saw it's cute little travel size.
I'm not too familiar with Buddha or Molly Hahn's work, But I decided to give this a try and I'm thrilled. This book has adorable drawings and such beautiful words and sayings in it. I am extremely happy for this book, Great for kids or adults!

Good story but...

The plot is unusual and quite interesting, with elves and demons and gods and demigods. The let down for me, is the two main characters. The blurb led me to believe that one of the MCs is a widely feared bad-ass demon but what I got is a soft spoken emotionless one with a bad rep. Other than that one scene with a hound, there is hardly any on-page display of his much touted power. The other MC is his slave, a wallflower of a character who is boring and uninspiring. It is no wonder then that the sex scenes between these two lacked passion and heat. A shame really, because the story really is good. There is no mention if this book is the start of a series but it had ended with only a HFN.

I didn't think I was going to like this book when I started

I didn't think I was going to like this book when I started...Much violence, but once I got into it, couldn't put it down.
A very dark story, very mystical, with demon Gods fighting wars against humans, and the head demon a mix of demon
and elf. If you don't mind the violence, you will enjoy the read.

OK read, could be better (spoilers)

Good writing mechanics. Interesting premise and characters. Sexual elements decent.

Since this is an erotic bdsm fantasy I expect some unreality. That's the nature of this genre. But I do want consistency in characterization and behavior within the parameters the author sets up when a story presents itself as having meaning beyond simple sexual titillation. In this work the MCs have complexity but not consistency. Their words and actions contradict their defined characters constantly. Stupidity arises to advance the action. Insta-growth, Insta-relationship, Insta-plot point.

Especially annoying because most of that could be reconciled by simply having the tale occur over a longer period of time. After a few hundred years or even a few decades it would of been much more realistic for the slave MC to gradually make a connection, the demon MC gradually becoming curious, the father complacent and careless. The story could of lived up to the premise.

IMO of course.

About the Author
Elias Khoury, born in Beirut, is the author of thirteen novels, four volumes of literary criticism, and three plays. He was awarded the Palestine Prize for Gate of the Sun, which was named Best Book of the Year by Le Monde Diplomatique, The Christian Science Monitor, and The San Francisco Chronicle, and a Notable Book by The New York Times. Khoury’s Yalo, White Masks, Little Mountain, The Journey of Little Gandhi, and City Gates are also available in English. Khoury is a Global Distinguished Professor of Middle Eastern and Arabic Studies at New York University. As Though She Were Sleeping received France’s inaugural Arabic Novel Prize.

Humphrey Davies’ translations include Naguib Mahfouz’s Thebes at War (American University in Cairo Press, Anchor Books) and Alaa al-Aswany’s The Yacoubian Building (AUC Press). He has lived throughout the Middle East and is currently based in Cairo.

Umm Hassan is dead. I saw everyone racing through the alleys of the camp and heard the sound of weeping. Everyone was spilling out of their houses, bent over to catch their tears, running. Nabilah, Mahmoud al-Qasemi’s wife, our mother, was dead. We called her mother because everyone born in the Shatila camp fell from their mother’s guts into her hands. I too had fallen into her hands, and I too ran the day she died.
